I will be analysing the show 'Have i got news for you'. For their opening titles they have a sting that is topical for the type of show that it is with lots of cartoons of stuff happening. Afterwards it goes to a widshot of the studio so we can see have an idea what it looks like. Id say the studio is about 50:50 in size. The seating is set out as the host in the middle and theres 2 talent either side of them. There seated behind a big desk that curves round. The audience is seated infront of the set on raised stands.
The set is designed to look good. it looks good on the cameras, the set is mostly a dark red theme and the back drop is blue coloured with loads of newspaper clippings. This goes in with the style of the show. It doesnt look like it allows the cameras to get an over the shoulder shot but they can get a variety of shots with the set. It looks like it can just be quickly wheeled of or taken apart and put in storage and they just get it out of storage an set it up. Doesnt look like it would take a long time. In all I can see there is 4 cameras used. Theres a camera rigged on a jib arm this would be used for wideshots. Theres 1 camera infront of the host which would have the auto cue on it this would be in a fixed position and give an MCU of the host. Then there are 2 cameras on peds which are moveable these give 2 shots, shots and MCU's.
It looks like the host and talent are equip with radio mics which are omnidirectional so the sound operators can hear them. There is also some mics are fixed to the rig to pick up audience sound. The mic used would most likely be a shotgun mic. The set really goes well with the style of the show as its news based and the set has news paper clippings on it and it gives it a real news feel. The graphics used it its text the background of the graphic is again news papers.
The lighting rig doesnt look to big and it wouldnt be to complex to light the set and host an talent. The lights are fixed throughout the show and dont move. The likely size of the crew would be around 16-18 people there would be 4 cam ops, 4 cam asis, sound op, sound asis, DVD op, FM, Asis FM, Asis DIR, DIRECTOR and a vision switcher.
The show is made in a studio which they most likely have rented out. The main shots used in the show where 2 shots showing the talent when they are talking. a MCU of the host is very frequently used. Also they do MCU's of single talent. There is some wideshots but it was mostly used for the opening an ending of the show.
To make the show they would have to think about health an safety issues. This would be are the fire escapes easily accesible with the set put up. Are the camera cables going to be a tripping hazzard they would have to take this all into account.
The general format of the show is a political quiz show. It doesnt realy stick to a rigid format most of it is ad lib and doesnt seem to be much script apart from the hosts punns. The host is really just like the talent joins in in jokes an ad lib they dont come across as all powering quiz show host. The title sequence is very good it looks great an it fits in with the shows theme showing lots of things happening around the world. There is alot of VT inserts during the show lots of tv clips to help out a joke or a question. Id say the main audience for this show is people who are an older generation as most of the references are from a while back and also who is interested in politics. I say that this is aimed at older generation around the age 30-50 as they will be able to get some of the joke references in this show and younger people 16-21 wont get most of the references used in the show.
